Colin Riley EP Release, Songs of Coiled Light
Tuesday 1 October 2024

1st October sees the release of Colin’s new EP Songs of Coiled Light, the twentieth release on his label, Squeaky Kate Music. Colin performs alongside improvising bass clarinettist Gareth Davies and sound-artist Rutger Zuydervelt.  Blending scored music, improvisation and electronic manipulation, the EP takes its original inspiration from a poem by Michael Rattee.

Colin Riley Pegasus Choir,  London

World premiere of Colin’s new work for choir and harp It Speaks Without Answer. Colin’s second specially-written piece for Pegasus, the six songs chart the course of the river from source to estuary exploring moods and emotional connections. Each song makes reference to small noticings along the way. The conductor is Matthew Altman, and the harpist is Gloria Rappo.

Stick in the Wheel Autumn Tour, UK-wide

Stick in the Wheel’s UK tour begins in Nottingham on Friday 25 October. Other dates this month are in Manchester (Sat 26/10), York (Mon 28/10) and London (30/10).

World premiere of Laura Bowler’s Deconstructing Pierrot. Co-commissioned by Red Note Ensemble, Music on Main and Ensemble Offspring, Laura takes Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire and looks at the work through a contemporary queer lens.

Supriya’s evocative Indian vocals are merged with Lucy Nolan’s harp, performing as duo Sonic Threads. They are joined by sound artist Duncan Chapman. Part of Enlighten Festival.

Emily Peasgood  Listening Desk, venues across the UK

Listening Desk is an interactive sound sculpture that invites people to access and create soundscapes with sound archives. The Listening Desk democratises access to sound archives in a fun and playful way. Installed at 10 locations around the UK.

Colin Riley Cutty Sark soundscape, London

An immersive ambient set of soundtracks for each of the decks of the Cutty Sark (in all weathers) created by composer Colin Riley and violist Nic Pendlebury (Sonic Collaborations). The music uses an orchestra of electric violas alongside treated piano and samples mixed with sounds from the boat.

The music is available exclusively as a download EP on the Sonic Collaborations Bandcamp.
