Listen to my new cello work! World premiere

Hello lovely patrons,

As promised, I’m really happy to share a recording and the score from the world premiere of a new cello work, Three Girls in an August Garden.

This piece was commissioned as a birthday present by an individual in Dublin, responding to their reflections about their three young girls exploring their newly planted garden.

‘This short work opens with a portrait of a tranquil garden in the late Irish summer. As the stillness begins to stir with life, playful rhythms emerge, each capturing the distinct character and energy of three young girls as they run, climb and explore. Gestures are drawn from nature, with flurries of leaves and fluttering insects emerging from the green, as new life rises from the earth.

As with much of my work, the music shifts back and forth between lightness and extremely fragile passages, and a heavier, more grounded world. As the day draws to a close, the garden settles into a warm glow.’

David McCann gave a brilliant first performance in Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble’s International Women’s Day concert in the Harty Room at Queens University Belfast.
