Writing an Album in a Van
Composer’s Diary: 31 July 2024
For the next two and a half months I am travelling around the UK in a van, writing my album. I’m not quite sure where I’m headed, or what the album will even sound like, but I needed to get away from it all the concentrate and feel creative…
At home, in Rubber Chicken House, I procrastinate. Having ADHD doesn’t help. In my van, titled Miriam: The Free Ranging Chicken (inspired by the great Miriam Margolyes, a woman who like myself, farts freely), it’s hard to procrastinate. It’s the size of a single bedroom, and once tidied – which takes 5 minutes – I have little else to do but write. I’m currently in a beautiful location in Lamplugh, Lake District, at the foot of a mountain, next to a stream, and have decided to stay here two weeks as the site hosts are nice, I have electricity, and it’s quiet.
I have a friend visiting tomorrow, musician Mark Hanslip, and we will spend a couple of days recording the sounds of wildlife: streams, some bats, and birds at dusk.
I’ll share some exclusive clips of what I am working on here – with you only. I will also be posting videos on my YouTube channel – you’ll get them before anyone else. That’s if you subscribe to support me.
I’ll be honest, I currently have only one Music Patron, and really need and value your support.
Until the next entry …
P.S. My YouTube channel is here, named after the two big themes in my work
