SUMMARY:New version of Tom Coult's O Ecclesia at the Purcell Room
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning classical guitarist Sean Shibe meets folk legend fiddler Aidan O’Rourke in a programme entitled Lùban – in Scottish Gaelic\, ‘Loops’. \nCreating a musical feast of mingled inspirations\, the pair have sought the common ground within the origins of their contrasting musical heritages. \nThey have gone back to ancient manuscripts of traditional songs and commissioned new versions of familiar pieces such as Dowland’s ‘Flow\, my Tears’ and traditional works like ‘The Queen of Ingland’s Pavan’. \nThey will be premiering a new arrangement by Tom of O Ecclesia. As Tom says: \nO Ecclesia is an arrangement of a chant by Hildegard of Bingen. The solo violinist plays the chant\, and is free to ornament and play with tempo\, while the strings provide a soft halo of sound to surround the violinist’s melodic line.

SUMMARY:Colin Riley's Ocean Songs at Wilton's Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Colin brings new album Ocean Songs to Wiltons Music Hall\, London on 19th May at 7pm. This is for one of Steve Pretty’s  wonderfully off-the-wall series of events  called ‘On the Origin of the Pieces’. It follows the success of performances at last years First Light Festival and the National Maritime Museum\, and most recently an album launch at Londons only ‘floating’ venue Theatreship (Canary Wharf). The new album has been described in reviews as  ‘a sort of Stereolab goes to the Science Museum‘ and ‘Colin Riley and crew have cultivated quite the stunningly beautiful song and album. An intricately woven cascade of vocal samples\, twinkling piano\, synths and strings’\n\nIn July Colin and the ensemble of Lottie P (Goat Girl)\, Nic Pendlebury (Smith Quartet) and Steve Pretty (Hackney Colliery Band) take a special version of their live show to Latitude Festival with special guest Helen Czerski (author/scientist).
