SUMMARY:Half Six Fix: Laura Bowler (with Barbara Hannigan and Bar Avni)
DESCRIPTION:Composer Laura Bowler’s new work for voice and orchestra is based on Booker and Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang’s The White Book – a poetic meditation on colour\, grief and the human spirit. A performer and vocalist herself\, Bowler’s settings are sure to make the most of soloist Barbara Hannigan’s theatrical stage presence and their shared flair for the dramatic.

Here our 25/26 Featured Young Artist Charlie Shortt will perform both as a soloist and within the ensemble. \nCharlie\, from Portadown\, began studying percussion at the age of eight. He is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London as an ABRSM Scholar. Charlie has performed with many ensembles across the UK and has held leadership roles as Section Leader of the Ulster Youth Orchestra and Joint Principal Percussionist of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. In addition to his orchestral work\, he was runner-up in the Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year 2025 and was shortlisted for BBC Young Musician 2024. Charlie is delighted to be performing with Hard Rain Ensemble\, collaborating with inspiring musicians to explore exciting new music. \nOur second half represents our annual celebration of International Women’s Day and features some of our closest collaborators. SUMMARY:Robert Laidlow: Exoplanets in Basel
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Swiss premiere\, Rob Laidlow’s work Exoplanets allows the sound of fascinating celestial bodies to be discovered in an audiovisual performance. \nExoplanets are extreme places: massive\, serene\, haunting\, ancient and fantastical. The orchestra is treated as a cosmic experiment in which original sounds\, structures\, harmonies and textures are developed on the basis of these exoplanets. \nArtificial intelligence is also used in this creative process to break radically new ground. \nAn introduction with Lukas Loss (Interfinity Festival) and composer Rob Laidlow will take place before the concert at 6.30 pm.
